A drawing. It all began with a drawing.

7 years ago, whilst working on a slow night at Celebrations, the eldest daughter in the family Amethyst sketched a black and white drawing of two birds having standing at a bistro table. DeWayne, otherwise known as Dad, loved the drawing and taped it up in the kitchen where it still hangs.

Then the business idea came. Fast forward to Christmas 2023, the family took off for 10 days due to Amethyst having a baby. In that time, Dad came up with an idea for a shop like no other in town. As he explained it to the family, Josh, the eldest son, knew it was just the place for him.

All that was left was to find a location. In the middle of a snowstorm, Dad was driving to the restaurant to lock up after some of the kitchen employees had been there. As he drove down a deserted Broadway, he saw a for rent sign in the window of 437. After stopping and looking in, he saw the potential that the space had, especially being surrounded by neighboring businesses that would complement his concept so perfectly.

After securing the location, as improvement were done the question of what to name our new place began. Lots of names were batted around, but Dad finally had a use for the picture Amethyst had drawn so long ago. Thus Goose and Gander was born. The birds in the picture got names, Felipe and Janet, and personas. Amethyst set to work painting many more iterations of Felipe and Janet whilst everyone else began putting our location together.

Opening on June 12th, Amethyst’s birthday, Goose and Gander fits phenomenally in the 400 block of Broadway. A haven for those seeking good food items, well constructed non-alcoholic cocktails, good company, or an education on different foods and beverages, Felipe and Janet, along with the members of the Schaaf family, welcome all in to experience something that Cape has not seen the likes of before!
